Holiday Party Drinks

What do you think of when you think of winter holiday drinks? Hot apple cider? Eggnog perhaps? Well, sometimes eggnog and cider are just boring. And who wants to host a boring party?

Well, not you otherwise you wouldn't be here, right?

Urban Hostess has two drink ideas with just enough flair(and alcohol😉) to keep everyone in the festive mood long after the food is gone. Holidays are about traditions, making it easy to just stick to the trusted go-to drink options. But being an urban hostess means we take those traditions and shake them up a bit and adding some charisma...

So we'll be talking in parts, where one part is a shot, that way you can easily scale up or down without having to google how many ounces in a liter.

Pomegranate Ginger Fizz

Did you know pomegranate was a winter fruit? It sure is. Did you also know that's why the color red is a primary color during the season? Ok, we made that last part up… But it is a great fruit to use to make the perfect holiday drink! Adding gin which is basically a liquified Christmas tree in a bottle and you have literal holiday spirits. With such an eye-catching pop of color, this mix looks fabulous in a clear dispenser or punch bowl for all to recognize, "oh this a real holiday party".

Fizzes are fun, light-hearted drinks that can uplift spirits The hidden secret to this cocktail is infusing the gin with some fresh ginger and sage making some quick aromatic bitters.

Start by grating one part ginger, two parts sage then muddle with one part gin in a shaker. Toss in about four more parts gin, shake and sit to the side. Swirl and shake periodically for the next 15 to 20 minutes. Pour over a strainer into the empty dispenser. Add two parts pomegranate and one part tonic or sprite.Add all the ice you want and toss in pomegranate seeds and sage leaves for garnish.

If you are just making this by the glass, pour over ice and add tonic on top. Garnish with a few pomegranate seeds, a sage leaf, and voila!

The Feliz Navidad Negra

There's nothing better than a warm cup of hot cocoa, with tequila…

It's like putting the best parts of both your childhood and adulthood all in one mug. Cantera Negra Cafe is a must-have for people who appreciate a good adult liquor. A rich coffee flavored agave, that is smooth and silky with just a touch of smokiness, Cantera isn't just a Bailey's substitute. Mix two parts with one part Galliano, a herbal liquor made with vanilla and juniper. Add your cocoa and top with whipped cream and cinnamon.

This is the drink Starbucks wishes it could sell. It might be yummy but at about 65 proof you might want to warn your guests, that it's not the hot cocoa that's warming their chest up!

Both these drinks will have you looking like a true mixologist so break out your artisanal muddler and stirring spoon because you'll blink and they'll need refills!
